On The Verge ( Or, The Geography of Yearning)

For History Stage's production of On The Verge at NRACT, we used QLab 3 as the centerpiece of the multi screen sound and video design.
The stage was configured with two rear screen projection screens built with back Rosco PVC material and the theatre was set up with a 5.1 audio surround system.
The sound design incorporated sound effects, musical stings, and background themes sourced from Pond5 and used to reinforce the mood and emotions the monologues that ended each scene. Using QLabs multi channel audio and MIDI control capabilities allowed us to direct the audio to various channels of a Presonus mixer and direct the audio to the 5.1 system.
The video projections were built using still photographs and video clips to establish various locations and in some cases to support lighting effects for special scenes. These production elements were sourced from Pond5 and iStock.
For one scene the director wanted the Fortune Teller character to be presented on one of the video screens. We connected a sony camcorder to QLab using the mac's FireWire connection.
The production received many positive comments about the use of multimedia technology to underscore and support the actors in a subtle and transparent manner.

Snow White, The Queen's Fair Daughter

For Raleigh Little Theatre's production of Snow White, The Queens Fair Daughter, Mindtracs created the mirror effects using a live action rear-screen video projection syste. We also developed a soundscape featuring a musical theme for each of the principle characters and envionmental sounds to reinforce the locations.

The projection was accomplished using Sony standard definition camcorders feeding a video signal via FireWire to a Mac mini running QLab software

QLab fed the video signal to an Optima projector set up in a rear screen configuration and projecting onto a black Rosco PVC screen fitted into the sets mirror surround.

So that the actor playing the mirror could interact with the characters on stage, a teleprompter system was modified to accept a camera input from a hiden device on-stage. A microphone built into the mirror frame picked up the dialog from the on -stage characters and fed an IFB earpiece worn by the Mirror actor.

The voice of the mirror came from a lavilier mic feeding a Mackie mixer and a DigiTech Vocal 300 to produce the desired vocal sound. A speaker wias built into the set under the mirror to provide the localized sound of the actor's voice coming from the Mirror.
